Daffodil Pickers
36" x 42" (90cm x 105cm)
oil on canvas
A family out picking daffodils in the 1950s, in the days when the market
gardens flourished on the Cornish side of the Tamar valley, by Michael
Sanders "A painting based on a compilation from our parish archives.
Calstock is very fortunate in possessing a huge collection of images
dating from the very beginnings of photography. These images show the
mining and market garden heritage of the valley, and the importance of
the river for trade. Photos of sailing ships, barges, paddle steamers,
and men with candles on their helmets in the depths of the tin and
copper mines, as well as the sunny scenes of daffodil and fruit
pickers". |
