"Famous as the summer residence of Salvador Dali and his circle, Cadaques nowadays is a chic, picturesque resort. I did this as a demonstration for a painting group one evening before going out to eat. The view from the hotel was  deepening into the purple dusk and the lights around the harbour were just coming on. Boats rocked gently on the warm evening swell, reflections shimmered, and the backdrop of mountains began to merge with the darkening sky. I used the lights from the hotel terrace to paint by, trying more for tone than colour accuracy".
